Training For The Big Swim Across Lake Pontchartrain

Matthew Moseley will attempt a 25-mile swim across Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana.
He has been training hard, long and fast under the guidance of coach Randy Soler where he has added ultra-short race-pace training (USRPT) to his long workouts.
On Friday, he did a special workout, swimming past midnight in the dark.
“We did a 26,600-yard practice (15 miles). We started at 5 pm and finish at 1:30 am,” recalls Soler. “The workout was epic. In the last set of 5,000, we turned off the lights simulating the big swim across Lake Pontchartrain.
Matt was holding the pace that we work on 1:25 to 1:30. The day before yesterday as part of his tapering we did USRPT in 25m pool. The main set was 15 x 50 with times at 35 seconds or less. He didn’t think initially that he would be able to make it, but guess what happened? He made them all. Now after all the training, I am more than confident that Matt is not just going to finish the swim, he’s going to kill it.”
The swim will benefit the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation and a documentary is being filmed by Wayne Ewing to bring awareness to coastal wetland issues and recovery of the lake. For more information, visit here.
