Training vs. Talent In The Open Water

In open water swimming, training and preparation always beats talent. Especially in marathon swimming. Always.

Putting in the miles, getting acclimated, profoundly understanding the course, building mental strength, and preparing for the unexpected are fundamental, time-consuming, demanding keys to success.

Of course, luck is arguably the most important element of all. For the good weather, calm conditions and no stinging creatures cannot always be assumed – and the alternatives are often the levers to failure. For in the open water, Mother Nature is the greatest rival of all.
