Transformation Of Togs Into Timeless Treasures

Transformation Of Togs Into Timeless Treasures

Susan Petrie-Badertscher, founder of Petrie Point Designs, transforms vintage wool bathing suits into unique historical works of art that non-swimmers enjoy and swimmers appreciate.

Fueled by her idyllic seaside living on the eastern end of Long Island in New York, Petrie-Badertscher obtains the authentic, original wool suits from the 1920’s to the 1960’s from all over the United States and creatively frames the vintage swimwear into fantastic snapshots of the history of swimming and the beach lifestyle.

One look at the suits and one’s open water swimming thoughts immediately revert back in time to a world before GPS, electronic shark deterrent systems, and gel packs.

Her tagline is memories made modern™ captures the essence of her timeless art that is centered around female, male and infant suits. Each design clearly has its own unique character and history.

Customers hang the artwork in their homes, hotels, and restaurants or give as gifts.

My original inspiration was from being on the bucolic island of Shelter Island that is very historical and filled with childhood memories. We spent our summers at the beach surrounded by the smells of sunscreen, sand and surf.”

Sunscreen, sand and surf…always inspirational.
