Five swimmers in Ireland completed their Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming and were celebrated in Cork, Ireland this weekend.

The accomplished quintet included Fionnuala Walsh from County Clare and Ciaran Byrne, Ned Denison, Eddie Irwin and Gábor Molnár from Sandycove Island, County Cork.

The kickoff in an Irish pub was followed by a fine meal as the pod of Triple Crowners wore crowns with ‘jewels’ representing the Catalina Channel, the English Channel and the Manhattan Island Marathon. “The accomplishment was placed in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame’s archives as the swimmers received their IMSHOF certificates of accomplishments,” explained Denison. “More than 10% of history’s Triple Crowners participated in the Cork Distance Week – and other IMSHOF certificates are on the way to Barbara Held, Thomas W. Kofler, Penny Palfrey, Ranie Pearce and Karen Throsby. We were honored by their presence in Cork.”
