Tony Lillios and Kate Howell became the first individuals to complete a two-way, non-wetsuit 12-mile self-supported crossing of Crater Lake in Oregon. The duo swam August 13th in 55°F (13°C) water without any support craft due to the local regulations.

They carried a GPS unit which recorded their double crossing route (shown on left).

The friends from San Francisco topped the initial one-way crossing completed by Lee Fourrier in 1929. An audio description of Fourrier’s unprecedented swim can be heard here.
