Ulrika Thuné, Jonatan Sjölander Win 21 km Vidösternsimmet

Vidösternsimmet is an event in Småland, Sweden with 0.5 km, 6 km, 21 km and 42 km swims across Lake Vidöstern. As race organizer Christer Ringblom states, “The Lake Vidöstern is a very tough lake to master, swimming. The wind often blows with a strength of 4-7 m/s and fog is quite common.”

Ringblom forewarned the athletes, “This is the longest and toughest open water race in Sweden that takes place in the fresh waters of the Lake Vidöstern. There is no guaranteed finish in this event. You have to struggle with the forces of nature, focus on every stroke and count the big yellow buoys as you navigate past them on your way to the finish line. Your participation is all at your own risk.”

This last weekend, Nadja Joy (9:41:42) and Henry Stokholm (7:27:48) swam without wetsuits and won the bioprene division whileUlrika Thuné (6:44:27) andJonatan Sjölander (6:09:30) won the wetsuit division.
