Description

ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu is a group event- swimmers swim tandem-solos across each channel with a single time recorded for each crossing. The event committee makes every effort to select swimmers of comparable ability. The endurance challenge is for experienced swimmers looking to push their boundaries. Ocean conditions vary greatly and swimmers must expect to swim more than the linear distances recorded for each channel. In 2019, for example, swimmers swam over 36 miles (57.6 km) during the 3-day event due to strong currents.

New to 2021: swimmers may swim all 3 channels at once departing from the arrival location for the second and third channel crossings.

New to 2022: ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu The Race. Swimmers race across each channel over 3 days. The winner has the fastest cumulative time.
