The Fresh Start Swim Series Honeymoon Island in comprised of 3 events, the 2, 4 and 8 mile swims around Honeymoon Island in the Gulf of Mexico. We are a wetsuit friendly event, anyone can wear a wetsuit at anytime and participate. If the water is 70.9 or under those wearing wetsuits qualify for awards, if the temp is 71 or over those wearing wetsuits don’t qualify for awards. We are a small local race and a primary fundraiser for Forgotten Coast K9 who helps raise funding for veterans to receive service dogs for PTSD, all of our awards are donated by one of our sponsors. Due to the location of the island and time of year, our race tends to be very light on jellyfish and although we have sharks in the area, incidents involving sharks are extremely rare. Water temps can vary from 60-80 so its always best to look at the water temps and weather to get a better idea of what to expect. We have a huge variety of skills and level of swimmers participating, some who have never done any open water before all the way up to English Channel hopefuls and Olympians and we encourage participation in accordance with your goals and abilities. For our 4 and 8 mile swims we require the presence of a kayaker, if you do not have a friend or relative you can hire a kayaker through race registration. We also work with an awesome kayak company that traveling swimmers with their own kayakers can rent kayaks and have them delivered to the race site. An added bonus is the Live Music on the beach before and after the swim.
