The Classics – 3 Kilometres and 5 Kilometres

These are our annual big races – held around a 1 Km course over Moore Reef 50 Kms off Cairns. The races are in these agebands: Mens, Ladies, age groups: Up to 29 years on the date of the swim, 30/39, 40/49, 50/59, 60+

The course is marked out by buoys over a 1km distance, as outlined to the right – though this may change, subject to conditions and ensuring turning buoys are placed over sand and not coral.

This swim is spectacular – skirting the edges of this section of the barrier reef and offering prime viewing as you race. Your day out will include all the opportunities to snorkel and scuba etc, but as a venue for a race – you will never forget it.

Every Swimmer is a spectator!

The 5Km race will start first, separated into age groupings if necessary, and then the 3Km race will start approximately 3/4 minutes after the 5Kms. Timing is monitored by Masters Swimming Queensland, and all times and placings will be recorded.

The Pontoon takes a maximum of 300 people – and we have exclusive use of it and the entire boat for the day. However, it is 300 people only – so secure your spot. 

There is a time limit of 2 hours for the 3Km swim and 3 Hours for the 5Km swim.
