The 9th Annual Waterman Eco-Challenge, in honor of Janice ‘Mama C’ Causey, was such a vibrant day!
We had a bright, sunny gorgeous summer day with a fun wave! The conditions for the swim in the morning were fantastic and the water warmed up just in time. Light, variable wind out of the north with a little clean pulse pushing to the beach. 168 Swimmers – a record number! Liquid Space Youth Team had 35 as young as 11 years old- truly an inspiration seeing them out there! The paddle surf conditions made for a ton of fun on the way home and a blast to watch. SW wind picked up about an hour earlier than forecasted. That and swell direction made the crossing some work! 70 paddlers made it out and we had 9 RI Lifeguards hit the waves in the kayak race. The vendor village was fun, exciting with some new brands and all of our faves! We had a great showing from our Environmental tents and provided great education.
I cant thank you all enough for your being part of this day, making it what it is by getting out on the water with us! We hope you had as much fun as we did!
Thank you to Nuts’n More as our co presenting sponsor and to all our corporate sponsors and product donations! This day and our support of Mama C’s scholarship would not be possible without you and I am immensely grateful to you.
Waterman Eco-Challenge 2019 showed 168 swimmers 70 paddlers and 9 lifeguard kayakers – 247 competitors!!
Together we raised $4,240.00 for the Janice ‘Mama C’ Causey Memorial Art Scholarship at Narragansett High School!! For all of the love that Mama C showed our community, her students, Narragansett Surf Rescue and Waterman Eco-Challenge – it’s incredibly rewarding to be able to continue to host this day in her honor and support her scholarship.
Huge thank you to Narragansett Town Beach and its staff, Mike Florio & the Narragansett Surf Rescue Team for coordinating all the ocean safety & race preparations – so much goes into the planning and execution. A very special thanks to Dave Pezzullo & Joe Vingi for directing site execution and emergency response. New to our day was Master of Ceremony Tommy G adding a ton of color, thank you! Huge thanks to the whole Raw Elements team for all the hard work and all of our volunteers and all those in our community who donated their time, services and help! Big shot out to Tripp Burman, our resident in water photographer for always capturing the day flawlessly! Gallery here: Waterman Eco-Challenge 2019 Thank you to the Kettlebottom Team for all the amazing video footage – will be coming shortly! I truly love this community and to see this event grow from 38 competitors in 2011 to where we are today and experience all the excitement and unreal feedback from everyone – its incredibly rewarding to say the least.
Thank you to everyone for making this event so incredible for our community, I am truly grateful to be able to have a part in making it all come together!
