For years, USA Swimming has held its Open Water National Championships either in Miromar Lakes, Florida or Castaic Lake, California.

From East Coast to West Coast, America’s best open water swimmers traveled to compete for who would represent America in international competition.

But USA Swimming will change its venue and head inland in 2018. USA Swimming will hold its national championships in Tempe Town Lake on May 4th-6th.

The top swimmers in the 5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km races will be selected for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, 2018 Junior World Championships, and the 2018-2019 National Open Water Swimming Team and National Junior Open Water Swimming Team.

Tempe Town Lake has hosted a number of events, and our athletes and coaches will enjoy a tremendous venue for the 2018 USA Swimming Open Water National Championships,” said USA Swimming National Team Open Water Program Director Bryce Elser. “We are excited to extend the Junior National Championships format in 2018, which will not only provide a great competitive opportunity, but will serve as the qualification for FINA Open Water World Juniors.”
