This Saturday see’s the return of the Utterly Buttermere Swim returns to the Lake District this Saturday.
Tranquility and dramatic scenery welcome 300 early season open water swimmers.
Organized by Head to the Hills and The Open Water Swimming Club, the field, all suited with long wetsuits, will choose between the shorter 1.5 km or 5 km courses, or the longer 10 km marathon swim challenge around the lake circumference.
Andrea Tucker of organiser Head to the Hills explains, “Buttermere is an utterly stunning location for a swim. The Utterly Buttermere swim is designed to get away from the idea of swimming around buoys to swimming around the edge of the lake following its natural contours and enjoying the wilder surroundings of this beautiful area.”
The Utterly Buttermere Swim has an emphasis on personal achievement and ‘adventure swimming’ as competitors have to navigate their own way around the lake shore. And the swimmers will never be far away from their supporters and spectators who can take advantage of circular path around the lake.
