Vidösternsimmet, Smiling In Sweden Stroke-by-Stroke
Vidösternsimmet is a 21K open water swim in sjön (Lake) Vidöstern in Småland, Sweden. The race is traditionally held in August with the next race to be held on August 4th 2012.Vidösternsimmet is Sweden’s longest open water swimming competition that stretches from north of Osudden in Jönköping County to the Strait of Kronoberg in the south.
The race is divided into five different legs between 2.5K and 4.1K where swimmers stopped for hydration and refueling. Wetsuits and orange-colored swimmer safety devices were used.

Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Daily News of Open Water Swimming and founder of WOWSA. Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010).
