Villa Urquiza-Paraná Race To Start 2015 Grand Prix Circuit

A day after the opening race of the 2015 FINA/HOSA 10 km Marathon Swimming World Cup series in Argentina this weekend, the opening event on the 6-race FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix also kicks off in the Paraná River in Argentina.

This Sunday, the inaugural 25 km Villa Urquiza-Paraná race will be held in the Paraná River with 26 swimmers from 10 countries competing in the point-to-point marathon swim.

Pilar Geijo, with 11 career victories on the Grand Prix ciruit, is the pre-race favorite in the race from Villa Urquiza to Parana. But she will have to compete with Esther Nuñez Morera of Spain who has won a total of 8 Grand Prix races over her career, and Silvie Rybárová of the Czech Republic [shown above] who was the co-circuit champion in 2014.

The 2015 FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix schedule:

1st Race: February 8th- 25 km Villa Urquiza-Parana, Argentina
2nd Race: April 25th – 15 km Maratón Cancún, Mexico
3rd Race: July 25th – 32 km Traversée Internationale du lac St-Jean, Canada
4th Race: August 1st – 34 km Traversée Internationale du lac Memphrémagog, Canada
5th Race: TBC – 33 km Ohrid Lake Swim Marathon, Macedonia
6th Race: September 6th – 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli, Italy
