When Three Generations Swam From Asia To Europe
Photo of Jon, Trent, Debby, and Blake Erikson courtesy of Ted Erikson.The father-and-son duo of Ted and Jon Erikson inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame brought the next generation of Erikson’s into the open water swimming arena.
Ted (at the age of 81) and Jon (54) swam from Asia to Europe together with 17-year-old Blake, Ted’s grandson and Jon’s son, in the 2009 Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim.
While swimming the Bosphorus was the fourth time for Ted, it took a personal invitation from Mr. Sahin, CEO of Istanbul’s Haci Bekir, the famous confectionary maker of Turkey, to organize this unusual three-generational swim together.

Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Daily News of Open Water Swimming and founder of WOWSA. Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010).
