Scandinavian Winter Swimming Championships

On 12 February 2022, the Open Scandinavian Championship in winter swimming, which has been many years also a part of the Winter Swimming World Cup was held for the tenth time in Skellefteå. “The Happy Friends of Dark and Cold “ is a club behind this unique Event.

There are many enthusiastic winter swimmers around the world who look forward to participating in the competition that is to be carried out in the Skellefteå River – a river in central Skellefteå. Already 10 years participants from 20 nations have settled for the titles in the Skellefteälven river’s 0.2-degree water.

The organizers hosted 400 competitors to swim breastroke and freestyle distances 25, 50 and 100 meters in the ice pool. In addition, there will be relays of 4 x 25 meters. The competition will be inaugurated on the evening of February 11 by the County Governor Helen Hellmark Knutsson.

An addition to the swimming competition there is also an unique Poetry Competeition.

The 6 finalists will recite their poem standing in an ice wake. They shall each decorate themselves with a creative warm head gear, swimsuit and shoes

At the finals a jury will elect the winner and will judge according to the following criteria:

How well the poem reflects the theme

The creative outfit

Coolt performance – how the poem was performed
